π― Your 2019 Goals Ready? Let's Get Locked and Loaded!
Dec 31, 2018So a couple weeks ago I shared a recap of my year in 2018. I talked about the goals I met and didn’t meet, the growth I had, new things I learned, and the direction I’ve found.
Then last week I shared some information about how important it is to know your five and ten year VISION before setting goals for 2019. I’ve been so amazed and impressed by the response I got back. A lot of you have been sharing with me how important you found this and where you want to be celebrating when the new year hits next year.
Today, New Years Eve 2018, I want to talk about Making Goals for 2019. I have a few thoughts on this, that I’d love to share with you in the video, but i’ll recap it right here also.
So you’ve made a vision for where you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years. Now you’re putting pen to paper and trying to figure out what your goals should be for this coming year. Here are some considerations:
- Personal goals (losing weight, more exercise, eating better, better relationships, etc.)
- Educational goals (learning a new language, mastering an instrument, learning how to produce you’re own music, understanding music theory better, etc.)
- Money Goals ($5000/m in online cashflow, paying off debt, landing a huge sync placement with your music, selling merch at a gig, etc.)
- Service Goals (Helping your community more, offering services, local charities, fundraising, etc.)
Try and limit yourself to only 3 or 5 major goals. Why? Author and business consultant Jim Collins says, “If you have more than three priorities, you don’t have any.”
Crazy, right!?!
But it kinda makes sense. You need your focus to be laser sharp. You can combine many of your goals together, or make subgoals if you have to. But just limit yourself, I say between three and five.
This is going to sound nuts, but I want you to double, triple or quadruple your goals!
Yes, I want you to be insane about this. Why? Because you need to think WAY bigger from now on. You may not hit all your goals in the end, and that’s ok. The point is that you try, and that you stretch yourself into crazy areas you never thought possible.
I can’t stress this enough, think WAY bigger.
Now print it out, laminate it, and put copies up on your refrigerator, studio walls, bathroom mirrors, or in your car.
I like to make my computer wallpaper display my goals in giant text, so that I see them every time I sit down to work.
Prepare to read these every day, so they’re always fresh on your mind and on the tip of your tongue. So important. If I see you and ask you what they are you should be able to spit it out faster than a cat chasing a laser pointer!
Next, I want you to start sharing your goals with your significant other and friends. Let them know how crazy you are! What’s the worst that could happen?
Lastly, start breaking your goals into subgoals, like monthly or quarterly. This is where you’ll start using a planner to make it all happen. I personally love the Getting Things Done method, but there are all kinds of methods out there. Let me know what you find and end up going with!
You’re going to need to start eliminating pointless distractions in the next year. Less binge watching Netflix, less video games, less time wasters.
You’re going to get your life back.
You’re going set this world on fire.
